How to grow carrot seeds/ plants in India?

Carrot, also known as Gaajar, Mangal Mullangi, Gajjara Gadda, and Gajor is a wholesome and healthy energy vegetable served as salads, halwa and can be cooked as vegetables. It boosts the immune system and is good for eyesight. So, in this article, we will guide you to grow carrots at home to get unlimited access to get this beneficial vegetable.

Steps to germinate carrot seeds:

  1. Take a seedling tray and fill it with coco peat
  2. Make a 0.5-inch deep hole and put 4-5 seeds in the hole.
  3. Fill the hole with coco peat and spray some water. 
  4. When it grows 3-4 leaves transplant them in the soil or medium-size containers (or large).
  5. Plant each of the plants 15cm apart.

Watering requirements:

  • Water 3-4 times a week.
  • Give 1 inch of water in the root area, not on the leaves.

Manures:

Soil type:

  • Carrot prefers loamy, sandy, and well-drained soil.
  • Before transplanting into the soil make sure to add composts and fertilizers.
  • It grows best in the pH level 6.0-7.0.

Germination time:

Seeds will germinate in 10-14 days.

Temperature range to grow:  

20-29 degree C 

Sunlight needed: 

  • It needs direct sunlight to partial sunlight.
  • Minimum 3-4 hours of sunlight is required.
  • If growing in pots, place it in the area where it gets 3-4hours of sunlight.

Time to flower/fruit: 

It takes about 13 weeks to grow fully.
