Potting mix, also called potting soil, is a blend of materials like sphagnum moss, bark, perlite, vermiculite, compost or coir that’s intended for growing plants in containers. Some potting mixes contain added chemical fertilizers or water-retaining crystals. Also, check out our workshops for more details.
HOW TO USE
- Select the pot with proper drainage.
- Fill the bottom 1/3 of the pot with potting mix and gently loosen your root ball before placing it in the pot.
- Fill the remaining space with potting mix, then lightly press it down.
- Make sure you leave about an inch of space at the top so you can easily water.
Some potting soil mixes also include fertilizers, compost, worm castings, bone meal, or other ingredients that provide nutrients or improve the quality of the soil. Fresh potting mix lessens the chance of disease. Another of the top potting mix benefit is a lower chance of disease.
Alternate names: Saculant potting mix
