The addition of coarse river sand to garden soil, especially if it contains a lot of clay is very beneficial. Add it in a 1:1 ratio, with enough organic matter to the mix. Note – improper addition of sand to clay soil will create a concrete-like mixture unsuitable for plants. BENEFITS
Coarse River Sand is widely used in gardening to increase the porosity of the soil. Some of the highlights are faster heating of soil, making clay soil more porous, helping in proper airflow in soil, initiating the role of fertilizers, and easing the transplanting of plants. This is lime-free, so it actually improves the pH balance of the soil.
