How to grow herbs at home?

The fresh herbs for food preparation is always a satisfactory way of enhancing the taste and smell of the food. The freshly picked coriander from the garden and serving them as chutney for garnishing dishes is much better than buying it from the supermarket. These green herbs are easy to grow indoors as well as outdoors. So, in this article, we will guide you on what herbs to grow at your home.

What herbs to grow at home?

Oregano Herbs: 

Oregano is easy to grow indoors as well as outdoors. 

  • Put the seeds in a small container.
  • After germination of the seeds, transplant them in the garden. 
  • It takes about 1-2weeks for germination.
  • The plants need a minimum of 5-6 hours of sunshine.
  • Water them every day in the roots. Don’t overflow.
  • For better growth, pluck or trim the leaves.

Chamomile Herbs:

Chamomile is easy to grow indoors as well as outdoors. It is best served as tea.

  • Put the seeds in a small container.
  • After germination of the seeds, transplant them in the garden. 
  • It takes about 2-3 weeks for germination.
  • Plant them in cold areas of the house where it gets partial sunlight.
  • Water requirements are minimum. Water them when it is totally dry.
  • The best season to grow chamomile is the spring season.

Coriander leaves: 

  • Sprinkle the coriander seeds in a sunny spot.
  • The coriander shoots can be plucked from the 6-7 weeks of gardening.
  • The plant needs less amount of water.

Basil leaves: 

  • Sprinkle the seeds in the soil where it receives at least 6hours of sunlight.
  • Plant them in a good drainage container. Or if planting in the soil, make a passage for excess water flow.
  • Pluck the basil leaves and serve them in pizza and soups.

Lemon balm leaves: 

Lemon balm is best served as tea. It’s healthy and boots the immune system by adding them with other spices.

  • Sprinkle the seeds in a spot where it receives a partial amount of sunlight. 
  • Make a well-drainage system for water passage.

Lavender flower: 

Lavender has many medicinal properties. It also relieves insect bites.

  • Plant lavender in the area where it receives 5 hours of sunlight.
  • Make a good drainage system for excess water flow.

Parsley leaves: 

Parsley has many nutritional values. It contains vitamin A and vitamin C. 

  • Plant the soaked seeds in the soil.
  • The plant needs 5-6 hours of sunlight.
  • It takes 4-5 weeks for germination.

Manures for growing herb:

  • For growing herbs choose a container of 8-10 inches with a good drainage system.
  • Water the herbs twice a week.
  • Mix garden soil with organic compost like vegetable peels and tea compost with a 50:50 ratio.
