HOW TO GROW BITTER GOURD FROM SEEDS
  1. Take a Seedling Tray and fill it with Cocopeat.
  2. Make ½ inch deep hole and put 4 seeds in each hole.
  3. Fill the hole with Cocopeat and spray with water using a spray gun or spray bottle.
  4. Keep the soil moist, not soggy.
  5. Seeds will germinate within a week.
  6. Re-pot the sapling to a Medium Size Pot in 2 weeks.
  7. Full sunlight is needed.
  8. The time to harvest is 8 weeks.
ALTERNATE METHOD 
  1. Take a Medium Size Pot and add a Potting Mix.
  2. If planting in the soil add Neem Cake Powder, Vermicompost, and Seaweed.

Bitter Gourd is quick to harvest, easy to grow in containers with little effort, and has good yields. The tendrils of the plant grow up to 6 to 7 feet tall and bear light green alternating leaves with three lobes deeply lobed.

Like most summer vegetables, bitter gourd is easy to grow in your home or patio garden. Bitter gourd needs a very hot and humid climate to grow well. Bitter gourd seeds should be planted in a location that receives 6 – 8 hours of sunlight each day.

Bitter gourd does not tolerate drought. Ensure good soil moisture in the top 50 cm of soil where most of the roots reside. Water every 3 – 4 days during the early stages of growth and every other day during flowering/fruiting. Furrow irrigation is the ideal irrigation method.

The growing area should be exposed to direct sunlight for at least 6 hours a day. Bitter gourd vines begin to bloom in about 2 to 3 months when grown from seed. It produces male and female flowers on the same vine.

Bitter gourd can be grown in well-drained sandy loam to sandy loam. Medium black soil rich in organic matter. Riverbed alluviums are also suitable for bitter melon production. A pH range of 6.0 to 7.0 is considered optimal.
